In April I visited an amazing girls’ soccer league in a remote area of northern Nicaragua. It’s rare for girls to play organized sports in Nicaragua, yet girls’ soccer in particular is making inroads. The league in Bocana de Paiwas is called “A Goal Against Machismo” and hundreds of girls have participated over the last four years. Aside from learning to dribble and pass the ball, they have fun, get exercise, and even go to workshops to learn about their sexual and reproductive rights.
Listen to the girls’ voices in the radio report, in Spanish! And below there’s a link to an article in English.
